The Pelicans say that the injury occurred Oct. 5 during the team’s preseason game against the South East Melbourne Phoenix in Australia.
Looney will be re-evaluated in two to three weeks, and further updates will be provided as appropriate, according to a team source.
Before signing with New Orleans this offseason as a free agent, Looney spent the past 10 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, where he won three NBA Championships.
