Report: When Yoane Wissa could actually make Newcastle debut after running on grass following…

Yoane Wissa’s long-awaited debut for Newcastle United could now come against perhaps the most fitting opponent.

A knee injury has prevented Wissa from playing for Newcastle United yet following his £55million move from Brentford in September.

The club spent weeks trying to sign him and the fact he suffered an injury while away on international duty without ever training with his new teammates perhaps summed up the chaotic nature of Newcastle’s transfer window.

Wissa is expected to return in November after suffering a slight setback, with the initial date of his return pencilled in for October.

Now, it seems he could be reuniting with some old faces when he finally pulls on the Newcastle United kit for the first time.

Yoane Wissa could make Newcastle United debut against Brentford

According to The Daily Mail, Wissa is out running on grass again as he steps up his recovery.

As such, the report suggests that Wissa could make his debut for Newcastle when they travel down to Brentford on Sunday, 2 November, 2025.

He’s likely to get quite the reception at the Gtech Community Stadium. The 29-year-old is their record Premier League goalscorer, but Wissa forced a move away from Brentford to Newcastle.

The report also claims that while the plan was initially to have Wissa and Nick Woltemade trade places as Newcastle’s main striker, that may no longer be the case.

A combination of Woltemade’s brilliant form and the struggles Newcastle’s wide options are enduring could see Wissa play as a right winger.

Anthony Elanga suddenly under pressure after Yoane Wissa update

Newcastle signed Anthony Elanga for £55million this summer, with the Sweden international becoming the first player in that position the club have bought in the PIF era.

Though there have been some promising signs from the former Nottingham Forest player, he’s yet to fully convince.

The idea that Wissa, who has signed as a striker, could be played out of position ahead of him is a slight concern.

It’s hard to imagine that being a long-term thing but it perhaps shows that Elanga isn’t fully up to speed yet.

Eddie Howe has been impressed with Elanga but he does need to show more at some point.
