Packers should hang up the phone on desperate Giants’ trade inquiries at receiver

The New York Giants are on the lookout for receivers after losing star sophomore Malik Nabers for the season to a torn ACL. Several Packers pass-catchers are among their targets, reports Easton Butler of 247Sports – namely Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, and Dontayvion Wicks. Any one of them could help the Giants’ depleted receiver corps, taking pressure off rookie quarterback Jaxon Dart, but the Packers should probably just hang up the phone.

The Giants have called the Packers interested in trading for one of their receivers, per @Easton__Butler.

Green Bay shouldn’t be shopping its top receivers

With Jayden Reed out indefinitely, Doubs have emerged as the team’s most reliable receiver and de facto No. 1 option. The offense still hasn’t figured things out entirely and needs playmakers. If this team has Super Bowl aspirations, Doubs is effectively untouchable barring a jaw-dropping offer.

Back in practice following knee surgery, Watson could play as soon as this Sunday against Arizona, said head coach Matt LaFleur, providing a boost to the pass game. Anything they could get for him, however, will not reflect his true value coming off injury. They just extended him through 2026, too, so trading him now would feel ruthless.

Wicks is the one name the Packers could consider parting with, but his lesser worth also means they would get less in return. Wicks has not been outstanding through five games, compling 12 catches for 129 yards, but he has been solid and helps fill Reed’s role as a slot receiver.

With Watson’s status uncertain and Reed on the sidelines, the roster is thinner at the position than you might think, with Wicks third in line behind Doubs and Matthew Golden. Flipping him for a late-round pick would make no sense whatsoever.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson (9) is shown before their preseason game against there Seattle Seahawks Saturday, August 23, 2025 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

All of which goes to say, the Giants should call someone else to fix their receiver woes. Even dangling second or third-round picks should not sway the Packers to deal Doubs or Watson. Pro tip: a non-contender would be a lot more willing to hear them out than a team Green Bay in the hunt for a Super Bowl.
