Manchester United spent the summer completely remodelling their attack, offloading the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Antony and bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
Whilst Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, and Jadon Sancho are only out on loan this season, it’s extremely unlikely that they’ll play for United ever again, with Ruben Amorim discounting them from his side.
As such, this paves the way for some of the academy stars to work to get a spot on the fringe of the first team, with a handful routinely being included in senior training.
Ahead of the clash with Liverpool this Sunday, as the October international break comes to an end, Shea Lacey has been involved in training with Ruben Amorim’s squad.
The Daily Mail has reported that the 18-year-old has not only won the praise of Ruben Amorim, but also United and England legend Wayne Rooney.
After a significant injury setback a year and a half ago, Lacey found himself on a FaceTime with Rooney, with the pair represented by the same agency, where the ex-striker commented: “Keep doing what you’re doing mate. You’re doing brilliant!”
Unfortunately, the thigh tear that ruled Lacey out of action with United in 2023 also cost him his place at the Under-17 World Cup.
The report explains that club sources have expressed frustration with the injuries holding back Lacey’s development and “putting pause to his now imminent first team breakout”.
It’s understood that Shea Lacey is also being treated by Ruben Amorim like any other member of the first team, yet another sign that the 18-year-old could well make his debut by the end of the season.
