John Terry speaks out over footage of Diego Costa flattening Chelsea Women's legend

John Terry has laughed off an incident that occurred during a recent training session in which hot-headed former Spain striker Diego Costa flattened Chelsea Women's legend Gemma Davison. Nothing is a surprise when it comes to Costa, whose career was made up of feisty moments as much as goals scored.

Costa took no prisoners in preparation for the Blues' encounter with Liverpool last weekend, which ended in a shock 1-0 win to the Reds. The hosts possessed a star-studded lineup in comparison to their opponents but the Spaniard was unable to fire his side to victory.

One of the main talking points following the charity match was a clip that surfaced from training, showing Costa clattering into Davison.

Terry was also participating in the training session and posted footage of the moment unfolding, in which he had shouted in response at the time: "That's a yellow!" before giving a witty analysis: "That’s Diego in a nutshell. He just doesn’t give a s***. The ball goes down the channel and Gem's like shielding it a little bit and he comes running over and just goes bosh!"

The pair were seen laughing it off afterwards with a hug, but Martin Skrtel didn't receive such pleasantries when the former Liverpool defender got into a heated exchange with Costa during the charity match. The pair re-ignited their rivalry from their Premier League careers on a day when the Reds prevailed courtesy of Ryan Babel's late winner.

Costa was back representing Chelsea for the first time since 2018, when he left the Blues for Atletico Madrid. He spent three years at Stamford Bridge, bagging 59 goals in 120 games, winning the Premier League title twice.

The former 24-cap Spain international picked up 30 yellow cards in that time, but surprisingly never received a straight red card while in West London. His pitbull-like personality made him a hit with fans of his own club, and he played the role of pantomime villain.
