Shane Steichen of the Indianapolis Colts is an early favorite to win NFL Coach of the Year with his team off to a flying start and quarterback Daniel Jones playing like an MVP candidate.
Few expected such a drastic turnaround, and Steichen has been a big reason for it, at least if you ask Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner.
“I think how the kids say it is, Shane Steichen is ‘in his bag’ right now!!! Love some of the created one-off plays he has, [because] they still have answers for the QB if the special part of it doesn’t get the perfect look! That’s how you build pass plays, always having answers for your QB. … if QB (Daniel Jones) can process those answers they have a chance for great success!!” Warner wrote on X.

Jones won a preseason battle with Anthony Richardson to earn the starting quarterback job, and while he was seen as just a placeholder entering the season, he may be much more than that if he continues to play like he has so far.
Jones has completed 71.7 percent of his passes and has 12 total touchdowns with three interceptions, which is a pace that would be better than anything he did while with the New York Giants.
Steichen has done a masterful job building this offense to fit Jones’ strengths, while Jonathan Taylor again looks like the best running back in the NFL.
It would have sounded ridiculous before the season, but Steichen has the Colts in the running for the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
