'I don't see them having enough': Chris Sutton now predicts the score on Saturday as Newcastle…

· 16 October 2025, 21:30

Brighton and Hove Albion host Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday in a 3 pm non-televised kick-off at the Amex Stadium.

The Amex is somewhat of a bogey ground for Newcastle; indeed, Brighton is somewhat of a bogey team. It's not that Newcastle can't beat Brighton, because they have done so several times in the past, but we do always seem to make hard work of it.

There are always goals when the two sides meet, so there's that at least, but with Newcastle being the Kings of 0-0 draws on the road this season, another draw seems almost inevitable.

That's what Paul Merson went with for his prediction, and it's no real surprise to see that Chris Sutton has done the same.

Brighton v Newcastle always has something going on

Chris Sutton has gone with a stalemate

With his prediction for the BBC, Chris Sutton has also gone with a score draw, albeit not as adventurous as Merson's 2-2.

"I was impressed by Newcastle when I watched them against Forest. Their midfield is so powerful, and they have got good options out wide.

"I don't think they will start firing properly up front until Yoane Wissa is fit to help Nick Woltemade but, defensively, they look pretty solid and that has been backed up by their results on the road.

"Newcastle have drawn all three of their away games in the league this season, without scoring or conceding.

"The goals will come, but I don't see them as having enough to beat a Brighton team who always look dangerous even when they are not playing that well.

"The Seagulls have drawn two out of three at home so far, so I guess this has got a draw written all over it, too.

"Sutton's prediction: 1-1"

We need a win on the road

Normally, we'd be happy to take a draw against Brighton on the road, but given that we've already drawn so many games away from home this season, we really need to start picking up maximum points on the road to get our season on track.

We've had a tricky start to the season, and we've picked up points where we can, but if we are to regain a European place, we need to start actually winning games.

Beating Brighton at the Amex would be a massive statement from the lads.
