Pistons’ Jaden Ivey undergoes procedure, set to miss start of the season

Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent an arthroscopic procedure to relieve right knee discomfort on Thursday, the team announced.

The minimally invasive procedure and discomfort — unrelated to the fibula injury that ended Ivey’s season early this year — will hold Ivey out of the beginning of the 2025-26 season after he missed the last two preseason games for the Pistons.

Ivey will be re-evaluated in four weeks, according to a release.

A huge blow for the Pistons guard, who has been reeling to return to the court after his gruesome injury on Jan. 1 ended a breakout season where he averaged 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and four assists in 30 games.

Ivey’s rehab got him to the point of suiting up and playing 14 minutes in the Pistons’ first preseason game, scoring seven points in a minimal role.

But that will be the only play for Ivey for at least the next four weeks, as he immediately begins rehab following the procedure.

While the Pistons fared well without Ivey last season, making a push to the playoffs without him in the lineup, it’s certainly a major blow to the team’s guard rotation early on.

Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, Marcus Sasser and Chaz Lanier could all see some added time at the second guard spot without Ivey available.

After playing in 151 games across Ivey’s first two seasons in the league, the former fifth overall pick will now hope at least hope this procedure gets him back sooner than later after missing nearly 60 games last season.

The Pistons conclude their preseason slate against the Washington Wizards Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena. Their regular season begins on the road against the Chicago Bulls Oct. 22.
