Tre Johnson just got the kind of praise you rarely hear from NBA scouts

Tre Johnson had high expectations immediately placed on him when he was drafted by the Washington Wizards with the No. 6 overall pick.

Fortunately, the guard has lived with high expectations for most of his entire basketball career; most expectations placed upon himself.

The former Texas standout has always wanted to be the best and [his work ethic](https://wizofawes.com/washington-wizards-coaches-tre-johnson-floor) has proven that he's willing to put in the work to be exactly that.

However, it's not just Johnson who believes in his abilities, but clearly the Wizards front office and coaching staff share that same belief.

They proved that to be true when selecting him with their sixth overall pick, but more so with the way they talk about the playmaker since his arrival in the DMV.

Nonetheless, it's not just teammates and the coaching staff praising Johnson, but plenty of scouts are making it clear why they believe the rookie could be the next star player in the league.

In a recent article released by [The Athletic's Josh Robbins](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6720995/2025/10/16/tre-johnson-what-scouts-are-saying/), multiple scouts shared their thoughts about the newest Wizard and the praise couldn't have been higher.

"The shooting and the scoring ability are very, very high level," one scout told Robbins. "The offense was never a question with him, and getting shots off was never going to be a question with him because he's just been able to show that he could do that at every level, every team, every phase"

It's evident there's a lot to love about Johnson's game, and it's obvious that in the right situation, the explosive scorer should be able to be an immediate impact player.

Between his track record, skillset, work ethic and talent level, it's hard to imagine a world in which Johnson isn't able to at worst be a long-term role player for the Wizards.

At his best though, Johnson has everything necessary to be a cornerstone in Washington and be a player that the Wizards can build around for years.

If Johnson shows signs in year one that he can be their guy, or at least a building block, Washington will already be in a much better place then where they were when the regular season came to an end in April.

The Wizards may have finally found their next star guard following the departures of John Wall and Bradley Beal and if that doesn't excite fans, I'm not sure what will.
