The former Texas star was one of the biggest risers on NBA Draft boards after impressing scouts during the NBA Combine with both is production on the court and his answers in meetings with the top decision makers around the league.
Johnson passed nearly every pre-draft test with flying colors and his slide outside of the top five landing in Washington may have put him in the best possible landing spot for his career.
Entering a rebuilding situation on a team that has yet to find a cornerstone, the Wizards are set to put all chips in on the first player to prove they can be the guy Washington can begin to build around.

However, Johnson's career will only go as far as the work he puts in, regardless of how many opportunities the Wizards give him to seize the moment.
Fortunately for Washington, Johnson is already proving that he can fill the most crucial role on the team, even as a young player.
Johnson has created a reputation for himself since joining the Wizards, but in a good way.
The rookie guard's work ethic has allowed for him to become viewed as a one of, if not, THE team leader right away.
Being the first person to enter the gym and the last person to leave sets an example and that example carries weight from the top all the way to the bottom.
In fact, Johnson's addiction to putting in the work has even put the coaching staff in a position to where they have to force the playmaker to take a break.
Talent wise, Johnson has everything needed to be a star at the next level, but his desire to put the work in is exactly what could be the difference in potential and production.
Beyond that, Johnson's ability to lead could be what puts the motive to improve in the rest of the players on the roster.
