Liverpool face intense competition in the race for Nico Schlotterbeck, with the defender likely to leave Borussia Dortmund in the future.
According to Football Insider, Nico Schlotterbeck is one of the big defensive names on the market that many top teams are interested in. Liverpool are considered one of the key contenders for the German international, but faces intense competition from the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Real Madrid ahead of next summer.
Nico Schlotterbeck’s future could be a big source of concern for Borussia Dortmund ahead of the next window. There were reports back in the summer stating the centre-back was in talks over a new deal, but as things stand, the German international’s current agreement expires in 2027.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Bundesliga defender has no shortage of interest from top clubs, with Liverpool considering a move in the future. The Reds are intent on building their defence using the upcoming windows, as they have plenty of problems brewing in the background.
The Reds came close to signing Marc Guehi last summer, but currently they have no real advantage in the race for the centre-half ahead of the January or next summer’s window. Then Liverpool are dealing with the Ibrahima Konate situation, who seems primed to leave and join Real Madrid next summer. Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande is seen as a replacement for the Frenchman as the Schlotterbeck chase could be seperate.
As for Schlotterbeck, Liverpool view him as a unique profile that they currently lack in the squad, as Arne Slot does not have a left-footed centre-back. He could be an alternative to Guehi, but also a long-term successor to veteran Virgil van Dijk. Liverpool could be viewed as a top contender for the 25-year-old Bundesliga defender, but they are not alone in the race.
