Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt has had a rough start to his fourth season, battling an injury early on and being a liability in coverage. He missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury, was benched in Week 4, and only played five defensive snaps in that game. So far, Taylor-Britt has recorded zero interceptions and two pass deflections, while allowing a 75% completion percentage, 204 passing yards, three touchdowns, and a horrific 146.7 passer rating in five games, one start, and 214 snaps.
Cincinnati Bengals suddenly make 2nd-round pick a healthy scratch
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor watches the video board after Jake Browning is sacked for a safety in the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 5 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Detroit Lions at Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025. The Bengals continued a losing streak, falling 37-24 to the Lions.
According to Landon Belote of Sports Illustrated, the Bengals made Cam Taylor-Britt a healthy scratch against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football despite not being listed on Week 7’s injury report. This will be the second game the former second-round pick has missed this season and the first time as a healthy scratch. Lastly, Taylor-Britt’s days in Cincinnati could be numbered, especially with the NFL Trade Deadline looming.

Who takes over for him?

The plan is for Josh Newton to fill in as the No. 3 cornerback alongside starters Dax Hill and DJ Turner. The fifth-round pick from last year’s draft has served as the second-string corner but saw extended playing time when Cam Taylor-Britt missed Week 3 and was benched in Week 4. Newton hasn’t registered an interception or pass deflection but has held up in coverage, allowing 35 passing yards, one touchdown, and a solid 83.5 passer rating in six games, two starts, and 162 snaps.
