Pundit Simon Jordan has questioned why Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis would be an ‘admirer’ of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.

Reds chief Marinakis is weighing up whether to make his second managerial change of the season at the City Ground. Nuno Espirito Santo was axed little more than a month ago and replacement Ange Postecoglou is at risk of going the same way.

Postecoglou has gone seven games without a win since taking charge Trentside and is under significant pressure ahead of Saturday’s home clash with Chelsea (12.30pm kick-off). Rodgers was linked with Forest before the ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss’ appointment and his name has now cropped up again.

According to talkSPORT, Marinakis remains an ‘admirer’ of Rodgers. However, it seems any swoop for the Northern Irishman would have to wait until the summer as that is when his contract with the Scottish giants expires.

Asked if he could see former Leicester City and Liverpool manager Rodgers returning to the Premier League, Jordan said on talkSPORT: “I can see it in Brendan’s eyes, yeah. Because that’s probably where he wants to be.

“Obviously it suited him to go back to Celtic because the Leicester ship was sinking and he didn’t fancy that any more. And when he left Celtic, the Leicester opportunity was bigger than the Celtic opportunity and he didn’t fancy that one at Celtic anymore.

“So he probably doesn’t fancy it at Celtic anymore and probably fancies it at somewhere in the Premier League. I’m curious to see why Marinakis is a huge admirer of Brendan.

“That would be a curious situation to have explained to me, exactly what he admires about Brendan, in conjunction with Nottingham Forest doing something meaningful in the Premier League.”

Put to him that Marinakis was an admirer of Postecoglou, too, before he was brought in, Jordan replied: “Evidently. He employed Ange. What I’m saying is, ultimately, I’m curious to see why the conversation about Brendan is then permeated with the expression that he’s an admirer of Brendan Rodgers, how we know that, where that has come from and why that is the case.”

It is reportedly looking ‘increasingly likely’ Rodgers will depart Celtic at the end of the season. Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Fulham have also been touted as potential destinations for him. Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva will be out of contract with the Eagles, the Cherries and the Cottagers respectively in the summer, leaving Rodgers possibly ‘on the shortlist’ for those clubs.

This is Rodgers’ second spell with Celtic. He joined them in the summer of 2023 after leaving Leicester City.
