'Very tight': Chris Sutton predicts whether Leeds United can clinch a crucial away win against Burnley

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has delivered his verdict on whether Leeds United can claim a much-needed away win against Scott Parker’s Burnley this weekend.

Daniel Farke has several injury concerns as Leeds look to get back to winning ways, with doubts over the fitness of Noah Okafor.

Okafor’s potential injury is further compounded by the news that Willy Gnonto required surgery on a hernia injury during the international break.

Leeds have a poor recent track record after international breaks, which is something that Farke will be keen to end as his side travel across the Pennines to face Scott Parker’s Burnley.

With the Premier League season set to resume, Chris Sutton has now predicted who will get the better of what he believes will be a “very tight” encounter.

Chris Sutton delivers Leeds United vs Burnley prediction

Speaking to BBC Sport, Sutton explained why he believes there is nothing between the two sides as Farke looks to continue his strong track record against Parker.

Pointing to the fact that both sides have scored seven goals in their opening seven games, Sutton believes there will be nothing to separate the two teams.

Sutton said: “Scott Parker’s side have been competitive in most of their other games too, but so have Leeds, who have scored the same amount of goals as Burnley – seven – but feel like they carry a bit more of a threat.

“This is going to be very tight. I don’t like going for too many draws, but this fixture finished 0-0 in the Championship last season, and I am going for the same outcome this time. 0-0.”

How can Leeds exploit Burnley’s defence?

Although Sutton is right to point to both sides’ relative struggles in front of goal, Burnley are a different proposition from the defensive machine that won promotion under Parker last season.

Across the entire 2024/25 Championship season, Burnley conceded just 53 goals at a miserly 1.15 goals against per game.

This season, the Clarets have conceded 15 goals from seven games, at a rate of 2.14 goals against per game.

According to the data from Opta, 100% of those goals against have come from inside the box. If Leeds can pepper the Burnley area, they could get some joy on the road.
