The Cincinnati Bengals' fanbase knew which team to thank for helping them land Joe Flacco after his stellar outing against Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

After being named the starter to begin the 2025 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns traded the veteran quarterback to the Bengals. And though Flacco struggled in his first game with the Bengals, a 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the 40-year-old looked like a star against the Steelers.

In Cincinnati's 33-31 win over Pittsburgh, Flacco threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns, completing 31-of-47 attempts, outplaying Rodgers, who completed 23-of-34 pass attempts for 249 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions. Heading into the contest, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin even questioned the Browns' decision to trade away Flacco.

After the win, Flacco and Ja'Marr Chase made their way to the 'Thursday Night Football' set as fans waited to see the two stars speaking following the victory. As the two walked to the set, cameras panned to see fans standing and waiting for the duo with a special message.

"Thank you, Cleveland!" the crowd was heard chanting in unison as Flacco and Chase spoke to the Amazon Prime Video crew. It wasn't just fans in the stands showering the 40-year-old with love as many on social media began to ponder how Flacco was able to find success after leaving Cleveland.

"I’m starting to believe Joe Flacco was not the problem #Browns," an account on X posted after the win. Another post read: "Joe Flacco’s been with the Bengals for 10 days and has already thrown more TD passes than he did in four starts for the Browns."

Heading into the matchup, Tomlin questioned the Browns' rationale for trading away Flacco, especially to a division opponent. "You know, to be honest, it was shocking to me," Tomlin began to reporters at the time.

"[Cleveland general manager] Andrew Berry must be a lot smarter than me or us because it doesn't make sense to me to trade a quarterback that you think enough of to make your opening-day starter to a division opponent that's hurting in that area. But that's just my personal feelings."

During his media availability before the game, Rodgers also praised Flacco for sticking with it this late in his career. "I think it’s great for all the old guys," Rodgers said. "When I watch other spots, maybe it’s because I’m the older guy, I tend to pull for the older guys to win championships.

For his part, Flacco explained what was going through his mind as he watched the Steelers on their final drive and the Bengals' game-winning field goal. "But like sometimes, especially as a quarterback, you got to take the emotions and and the want to like looking ahead at the results," he told reporters after the game.

"You got to just take that out of play and just go play football. And, you know, hey, we got Ja'Marr on an out route. Oh, they're off of them. Just throw it. Just simple, simple thing.

"It just goes back to the basics and not worrying about the result in the moment. Just playing the play and getting our guys in position to go win it."
