Burnley player says he wants January exit – Parker’s decision frustrates

Earlier this week, Burnley’s Hannes Delcroix made his debut for Haiti in their 3-0 defeat to Honduras.

Delcroix represented Belgium at various youth levels and had one senior appearance, in Belgium’s friendly win over Switzerland in 2020.

The Burnley player was then pushed aside by Belgium. Therefore, he decided to represent Haiti. He’s eligible to play for them via his mother.

Friday’s edition of [Gazet van Antwerpen](https://www.gva.be/) carries an interview with the 26-year-old. The majority of the chat is about his decision to represent Haiti.

The defender then talked about his situation at Burnley. He suffered an ankle injury in April 2024, forcing him to spend close to 230 days on the sidelines.

Delcroix spent the second half of last season on loan at Swansea City, playing 12 games for them. He returned to Turf Moor in the summer and did pre-season with the Clarets, who had secured promotion to the Premier League.

Scott Parker then left the newly capped Haiti international out of his Premier League squad, which caused frustration. The centre-back is now aiming to leave Burnley in January.

_“The situation isn’t ideal. I’m not in the 25-man Premier League squad. It’s a shame, but that’s the manager’s decision. It’s up to me now to stay mentally strong and play a lot with the reserves to secure a transfer,”_ he said.

_“My time at Swansea was good. I’d just returned from an ankle injury, but I played a lot of minutes. I was also good in pre-season with Burnley this summer, but there’s too much competition for my position. ‘Too many numbers,’ the manager said. There are eight defenders for two or three positions.”_

His efforts to find a new club last summer weren’t successful.

_“It was a difficult transfer window. I haven’t thought about where I’d like to go yet. It doesn’t necessarily have to be in England, as long as it’s somewhere where I can play at a high level,”_ Delcroix explained.
