Girona defender Vitor Reis, currently on loan from Manchester City, is set to face Barcelona in La Liga this Saturday.

The 19-year-old Brazilian was once linked with a move to Barça, but the transfer never happened as he ended up joining Manchester City in 2024.

Now, destiny has brought him face-to-face with the club he once nearly joined.

Speaking to SPORT ahead of the match at Montjuic, Reis shared his thoughts on the challenge and his excitement to play against some of Barcelona’s brightest talents.

Reis admitted the significance of the fixture as it would be the first time he would face Barcelona.

“I’m very happy to have an opponent of this calibre. Barça has always been and continues to be a huge club. I think we have to be very prepared to compete against a rival like this.

“But if we impose our game and our will, it can be a great match, and we have a chance to come away with the victory.”

When asked about preparation, Reis emphasised the extra focus required against the Catalan giants.

“When it comes to Barça, the preparation always has to be a little more intense, a little stronger. You have to be really hungry.

“The coach has given us that energy, that determination. We have to show what we can do on Saturday, and that’s what we’re going to try to do.”

Lastly, the young defender also highlighted his anticipation of facing standout players from Barcelona’s squad, such as Lamine Yamal and Pedri.

“Lamine, from what I’ve seen, is a player who is developing a lot and has everything it takes to be one of the greats.

“But, as you say, Barça in general has very good players. Pedri, Lamine, Cubarsi… it will be a challenge to face them.”
