Boston Celtics waive 3 tryout players after preseason

The Celtics got some roster housekeeping done Thursday, waiving three tryout players following their final preseason game. The team announced Wendell Moore Jr., Kendall Brown and Jalen Bridges were all waived after spending training camp with the C’s.

That wasn’t the only roster work the Celtics did Thursday. They officially signed Ron Harper Jr. to a two-way contract, filling all three slots once again. Boston waived RJ Luis Jr. from his two-way deal so they could have Harper be part of the roster. Rookie draft picks Max Shulga and Amari Williams are the other Celtics two-way players.

Expect Moore, Brown and Bridges to end up on the Maine Celtics on the G League, pending they end up elsewhere. The Celtics didn’t have a longtime established player trying out like Lonnie Walker IV last season, but those three will look to continue their careers within the C’s organization.

Moore is a former first-round pick, selected 26th overall out of Duke in 2022. He started his career with the Timberwolves. Moore spent last season with the Pistons and Hornets, signing a two-way deal with Charlotte. He’s played in 90 career NBA games. Moore played in two preseason games, averaging 3.5 points and 1.5 assists, plus he had a highlight dunk against the Cavaliers.

Bridges played for the Celtics in Summer League after spending last season with the Suns on a two-way contract. He played for West Virginia and Baylor during his collegiate career and went undrafted in 2024. Bridges played in three preseason games for the Celtics, averaging 2.3 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.

Brown also played for the Celtics in Summer League, though he’s had a few more seasons in the league. He was drafted by the Timberwolves at 48th overall in 2022. Brown spent some time with the Pacers on two-way contracts from 2022-24, playing in 21 career games. He spent last seasons with the Nets organization. He played three preseason games for the Celtics, putting up averages of 2.3 points and 1.0 rebounds.
