Lazio signed Nuno Tavares permanently from Arsenal some months ago, and the defender is now attracting attention from Chelsea.
The Portuguese fullback impressed in the first half of last season. He racked up eight assists, but injury problems troubled him after that. This season, he’s played six times and is slowly getting back to his best.
Lazio have major financial issues, though, and this can lead to a departure in January. Il Messaggero, via LaLazioSiamoNoi, report Chelsea are a candidate to sign the 25-year-old.
The Blues are said to have tested the waters for him and are ‘well aware’ Lazio want €50m.
Arsenal have a 40% resale clause in the player’s contract. As a result, the Italian side are pushing the price up.
As well as Chelsea, Juventus and Inter are also monitoring the defender. He is currently Lazio’s fourth-highest earner and his exit will free up a lot of space in the club’s accounts.
The asking price for Tavares feels a bit presumptive though. His output was at a peak last season but has clearly taken a tumble in the last eight months.
Lazio would likely settle for less, which means a lower amount for Arsenal too.
