NFL considering significant ticketing changes

The National Football League (NFL) is reportedly weighing up considerable changes to its ticketing business from 2027 onwards.

As reported by SportsBusiness Journal, the league is considering its options prior to the March 2027 expiration of the current ticket network deals with Ticketmaster, SeatGeek, and Sports Illustrated Tickets.

The NFL is said to have spoken with potential new partner companies about the possibility of owning all of or a large part of a company that would handle primary ticketing for the league.

Secondly, the league is thought to be looking at owning all the fan data that comes with digital tickets, as well as preventing resellers from selling outside of the official NFL ecosystem.

Current primary ticketing deals for certain teams state that the NFL has the chance to consolidate ticket control at the league level.

A source told NFL reporter Ben Fischer that the NFL is curious to see if it could do with ticketing what the MLB is aiming for which is selling directly.

Some have predicted that it could be difficult for the NFL to align all 32 franchises, as some might think they could make more money independently.

Long-term thinking for the NFL is made uncertain due to a federal antitrust trial that Ticketmaster is set to face in March 2026.

Last season saw the NFL sell 18.9 million tickets.
