Palmer, Wood, Watkins and more: Latest FPL injury news ahead of Gameweek 8 as Chelsea face…

The latest FPL injury news for Gameweek 8 - with updates on Cole Palmer, Ollie Watkins, Chris Wood, Enzo Fernández and many more.

Another international break is finally in the books, and that means that millions of Fantasy Premier League players have to start paying attention once more – and as always, there is plenty of injury news to chew on before we hit submit on our teams this week.

As always, we’ve been keeping up-to-date with all the pre-match press conferences and the latest media reports to gather all of the most important FPL injury news in one place. Ahead of Gameweek 8, we’ve got updates on absent star players such as Cole Palmer and Martin Ødegaard and news of potential doubts like Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández and many, many more…

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer among the big FPL names missing in Gameweek 7

Cole Palmer, Moisés Caicedo & Enzo Fernández: Where to even start with Chelsea’s lengthy injury list? For those of you who missed the updates prior to the international break, the persistent groin injury which has wrecked Palmer’s season so far has now forced Chelsea to shut him down for at least another six weeks – he won’t be back until December.

There could be many others players out this weekend, too. Pedro Neto, Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández are all major doubts and will be out if they’re unable to train today. There is good news for Reece James owners, at least – he’s “fully fit,” according to Maresca. For full Chelsea team news (and there’s plenty of it), click here.

Ollie Watkins: The striker has had a rough start to the season which wasn’t improved much by an international break which saw him get on the scoresheet against Wales but also collide painfully with a post and be sent home as a result. Thomas Tuchel suggested that Watkins would be OK by the weekend when discussing the injury ahead of England’s 5-0 win over Latvia, however, so it’s likely that he features.

Chris Wood: New Zealand manager Darren Bazeley said that Wood was “a little bit sore” after his international break exertions – but added that it was “nothing too bad” and it sounds likely that he’ll be involved against a depleted Chelsea side as Ange Postecoglou goes hunting for his first win as Nottingham Forest manager.

Martin Ødegaard: The Arsenal midfielder will be out for “a number of weeks” thanks to a knee injury – it’s not clear precisely how long he’ll be absent but he’s certainly a sell if you still have him in your FPL team, and as we worked out when we diving into the stats earlier this week, it’s potentially a big blow to Arsenal’s title chances. Piero Hincapié is fit again but probably won’t start, while Ben White is “available” despite missing much of the season to date.

Mitoma, Alisson, Alderete and more out or doubts

Kaoru Mitoma: The budget-friendly Japanese winger has been listed as a doubt on the FPL app for a while but could still feature against Newcastle United on Saturday – he’s in training but Brighton “will have to assess” him later on Friday, according to Fabian Hürzeler. We suspect that he plays.

Alisson & Ibrahima Konaté: Liverpool have a massive match on their hands this Sunday, with old foes Manchester United making the trip to Anfield to face a side which have suddenly lost three on the bounce. Liverpool won’t have their first-choice goalkeeper – Arne Slot has confirmed that Alisson Becker is out – but centre-back Konaté is back in training and could start. Alexander Isak, incidentally, is “close to the level he should be” in terms of fitness, according to Slot. Time to invest in the super-expensive Swede, perhaps?

Omar Alderete: The Sunderland defender is a cheap inclusion in many squads but is a doubt this weekend after picking up a knock on Paraguay duty. Régis Le Bris’ press conference on Thursday came before the club had been able to conduct a full assessment, but the Black Cats manager sounded positive about Alderete’s chances of being involved.

Lewis Hall & Valentino Livramento: These two injuries pre-dated the international break but in case any FPL players missed it – both of Newcastle’s preferred starting full-backs are out until late November at least thanks to serious injuries. That likely devalues Newcastle’s defence as a whole, but there’s a chance that Kieran Trippier becomes a consideration again.
