Barcelona received a boost of optimism after the Barcelona City Council officially granted the first occupancy permit for Phase 1A of the Spotify Camp Nou renovation.

This permit allows 27,000 spectators to enter the stadium, covering the Tribuna and Gol areas.

The approval comes after the club addressed the deficiencies identified by city officials a few weeks ago, paving the way for a cautious return to their revamped stadium.

While the news is positive, it is important to note that Phase 1A represents only part of the stadium.

The full return of fans depends on Phase 1B, which will increase capacity to 47,000 spectators.

Regarding the matter, Barcelona vice president and head of the Espai Barça project, Elena Fort, has explained (h/t AS),

“We hope that phase 1B, which would accommodate 47,000 spectators, will be approved soon, because the works are finished and it’s a matter of permits and project validation, and it’s simpler than the approved phase.”

As per the forecast, the club is planning a potential reopening in mid-November, with the key date currently being the home match against Athletic Club on November 22 or 23, just after the international break.

Until then, Barcelona will continue hosting their home games in Montjuïc, including fixtures against Girona, Olympiacos, and Elche.

To accommodate fans during this transitional period, Barça have already activated the 2025-26 season pass, valid for matches at both Montjuic and the Spotify Camp Nou as the renovations continue.

The club is confident that, once Phase 1B receives final approval, a larger section of fans will be able to enjoy games at the modernised stadium.

After all the drama and delays, Barcelona and their fans finally see light at the end of the tunnel.
