Ruben Amorim has been meeting the press ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.
The first question was about the support that the boss has received from Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Backing from the board
“He tells me all the time, sometimes with a message,” Amorim said. “The most important thing is the next game. Is really good to hear the support also because of the noise.
“First of all I can feel it. I feel the support everyday. The pressure I put on myself is often bigger.
“It is really good to hear that and helps our fans understand that the leadership knows it will take time. It is good to feel the support but focus on next game.”
Team news
On the team news for Sunday’s game, Amorim said:
“Licha is not available. Near but he is just returning.
“I don’t know about Mazraoui. The international players are ready but we need to give them more time. The guys who are returning are ready to play.”
Lammens – The next Schmeichel?
The subject then turned to new goalkeeper Senne Lammens. Amorim was asked about the praise he received after his debut against Sunderland in which he was dubbed “the new Schmeichel”.
“Nothing is impossible, you have to prove you can start every week,” he replied. “It is possible he can play. He is not Schmeichel yet, he is a young guy with talent and the fans liked it.”
The Academy
Amorim was asked ifhe felt the academy was producing players of a high enough level to represent the club at first-team level.
“I think the academy can always improve”, he replied. “I am not the best guy, I have been here a year but I am not going to say the academy is not good because the results haven’t been great.
“We have to see the conditions in the academy to see if they are doing a great job. If you look at our club, we are trying to improve.”
