Kobbie Mainoo has had a challenging start to the Premier League season under manager Ruben Amorim, but remains determined to secure a regular spot in the Manchester United team.

He's hoping for his first league start this Sunday when United face Liverpool at Anfield. Mainoo has made appearances in all five league games so far, coming on as a substitute after not being used in the first two matches of the season.

Despite limited playing time, Mainoo requested a loan move over the summer, which was rejected.

Meanwhile, United are showing interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton ahead of the New Year.

The 21-year-old moved to Palace from Blackburn in a deal worth approximately £18million plus add-ons in January 2024 and quickly became a key player under manager Oliver Glasner.

His standout performances earned him a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024. According to the i paper, Amorim is reportedly a fan of Wharton, which could see the club prioritise him over Brighton's Carlos Baleba.

Baleba's inconsistent start to the season has reportedly raised concerns at United. While Brighton have valued the Cameroonian around the £104m mark, it could see United U-turn on their initial approach.

The report suggests that Wharton's potential arrival could prompt Mainoo to 'seek pastures new.' However, it's indicated that he is not looking to leave Old Trafford and is keen to impress, having undertaken extra strength training during the international break.

Sources close to Mainoo suggest he is 'ready to step up' and contribute positively to United's inconsistent season start, showing his true colours as he continues to show dedication to the cause at Old Trafford.

Although a loan move in January might be reconsidered ahead of the World Cup next summer, it's reported that a permanent transfer isn't desired by the midfielder.
