Manchester City beat Brentford 1-nil at the GTech Community Stadium before the international break to stretch their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions. Across those seven games, the signs are there that the new-look City squad is beginning to resemble a Pep Guardiola side. What has also been noticeable this season is that the fire still burns for the Manchester City manager.
Pep Guardiola has unfinished business as his Manchester City squad grows
Speaking during his pre-game press conference today, ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League fixture against Everton, Pep Guardiola explained that he has unfinished business as City manager. It would seem that the hunger remains strong for Guardiola to lead his team to even more success in the future.
Pep Guardiola believes he has unfinished business at Manchester City.
Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Everton, Pep Guardiola explained that he is pleased with the progress that his new-look team has made this season. He further explained that he hopes to see his team have a better season than their disappointing 24/25 campaign. Guardiola added that he feels that there is unfinished business at Manchester City. Speaking on his motivations to continue on as City manager, Guardiola explained: “*I still have the feeling and energy with the team and players to make it a better season than last season.*”
“*This is my target. I’m not sitting here in October, November, December saying we’ll win this and win that. Honestly, I don’t know what will happen tomorrow against Everton.*”
“*But the truth is, before the last international break, we were far away from the top of the league, and now we’re closer. We want to continue that and arrive at the last stages of the competitions being close.*”
“*This is the target we have and what I said, I think we’re doing much, much better than last season and every game we’re a bit better.*”
“*This is the margin that we can do better in many, many aspects. That gives me energy, it’s not job done, it’s completely unfinished business, which is why I’m here.*”

The challenge to lead Manchester City back to the top is clearly motivating Guardiola.
There is an entirely different vibe to the 25/26 Manchester City squad, both on the pitch and in the dugout. The arrival of Pep Lijnders, Kolo Toure and James French as members of Pep Guardiola’s staff last summer has given Pep Guardiola new ideas to implement and new coaches to work with. There is a freshness to the City coaching staff, which seems to have inspired Guardiola.
The new-look Manchester City squad is currently a work in progress. But the signs are there that Guardiola is beginning to put his imprint on his squad. Slowly but surely, this City team is starting to resemble a Pep Guardiola side. They have the potential to play the football that the Manchester City manager believes will be successful. There won’t be a change in Pep Guardiola’s philosophy despite a heavy turnover of players over the past ten months. Instead, the new-look City squad will be moulded by their manager. If his new players can quickly adapt to his style and demands, Guardiola could quickly lead Manchester City back to the top again.
Pep Guardiola believes he still has unfinished business at Manchester City. That seems a remarkable statement given the amount of success that Guardiola has led the club to. But a new challenge has arrived for Guardiola, and with new coaches and players to work with, the City manager is seemingly inspired to lead City to success once again.
