Exclusive: What Everton are now thinking about James Garner's future as Premier League clubs circle

TBR Football understands that Everton are working hard to tie down James Garner to a new long-term contract.

Everton have been busy securing players to new deals with Jarrad Branthwaite, James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford putting pen to paper in recent months.

While they work on formulating their plans for the January window and beyond, they are also making sure they don’t lose any key performers, and one of them is Garner.

Garner is held in huge regard by David Moyes, highlighted by the fact that he has played every minute of Everton’s nine games so far this season.

The 24-year-old has also shown his versatility, playing right and left back as well as in midfield.

Exclusive: Everton confident James Garner will sign new deal

We can now reveal that the interest in James Garner is substantial, but Everton sources have confirmed to TBR Football that they are confident a new deal will be finalised.

Among the clubs keeping close tabs on him are Tottenham, Aston Villa, Brighton, Brentford, and his former clubs Nottingham Forest and Manchester United.

There is also interest from Italy and Germany.

Our chief correspondent Graeme Bailey revealed: “James Garner is happy at Everton, he has thoroughly enjoyed playing for David Moyes since coming into the club.

“Garner is a big part of Moyes’s plans and he has made it clear his desire to keep him. Everton are confident that this will happen.

“But his people are aware of interest in him, and why wouldn’t there be? A great age, good experience and versatile, but Everton are more than hopeful he sees his future at the Hill Dickinson.”

James Garner targeting World Cup spot with England

Garner joined Everton from Man United in a bargain £9million deal back in 2022, and he has since forced himself onto the cusp of a senior England call-up.

Moyes has backed him to break into the fold under Thomas Tuchel, and now, Garner has admitted that he is targeting a spot in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad.

“I think that’s every English boy’s dream – to play for the national team,” he said. “There’s a lot of competition and I’m not naive enough to say I should be in the team.

“But at the same time, I do think I’ve had a good start to the season and ultimately that is my goal for this season, to get there or thereabouts with the England squad.”
