FARGO — Former North Dakota State forward Grant Nelson signed with the Brooklyn Nets, the NBA franchise recently announced.
The 6-foot-11 Nelson, from Devils Lake, North Dakota, played his final two college season at the University of Alabama. Prior to that, he played three seasons with the Bison.

Nelson averaged 11.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in 74 games with the Crimson Tide. He helped lead Alabama to the Final Four in the 2024 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
Nelson was a member of Brooklyn's 2025 NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas, where in played in all five games including three starts. He averaged 6.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 19.1 minutes per game. Nelson shot 58% from the field.

The Nets are slated to open their regular season next week. Nelson is expected to play in Long Island with the team's G League affiliate, according to SI.com.
Nelson played in 86 games with NDSU from 2020-23, making 56 starts. He averaged 12.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during his Bison career.
Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported Nelson is on an Exhibit 10 contract with the Nets. An Exhibit 10 is a non-guaranteed, one-year deal at the minimum salary.
