Ange Postecoglou insists he doesn’t need any reassurance from owner Evangelos Marinakis about his future at Nottingham Forest.

The Reds head coach is under pressure just seven games into his tenure at the City Ground after failing to register a win. Several names have been doing the rounds as potential replacements as Marinakis weighs up his options.

Postecoglou has said he did not hold talks with Marinakis about his situation during the international break. But that does not bother him as he prepares Forest for a crucial clash with Chelsea tomorrow (12.30pm kick-off).

“I don’t need reassurance, mate,” the former Tottenham Hotspur boss said. “Why would I need reassurance?

“I’m in a no-win situation, right. So you (the media) write about me getting replaced and naming replacements, either it’s pure fabrication and lies that the club is looking to move me on and talking to other prospective candidates for my role, so it’s either outright lies, or, there is some truth in it.

“Either way, what can I do about it? I’m not going to go suing a newspaper or the media and I’m not going to go to the owner, because who knows what the truth is and I don’t care. If people have made up their minds, internally or externally, after five weeks for God’s sake, OK, well, what am I supposed to do about that?

“It depends on the prism you look at that. What I consistently say, and I was mocked and ridiculed for it last year, is if you let the story play out, I’ll tell you how it finishes. But I don’t hold that decision in my hands.”

Postecoglou has become well-known for stating he always wins something in his second year at clubs. He maintained that record by lifting the Europa League trophy with Spurs last term, before being dismissed. And he remains confident he can deliver success on the banks of the Trent, if given time.

“Mate, it’s five weeks. I don’t know how else to explain it,” Postecoglou continued. “I said last year in my second year I always win things, right? And what’s the key to that? That I’m there in my second year, because it takes a bit of time.

“But the story always ends the same. You leave me here, let me do my job, it’ll end the same, that’s what I’m saying.

“If I don’t and I’m removed, well, what can I do about it? I can’t win in this situation in terms of me trying to tackle this and try to convince people. You either see what you see or you don’t, either way it doesn’t affect me.”

In a passionate pre-match press conference, Postecoglou argued some people view him through the ‘prism’ of being ‘a failed manager who’s lucky to get this job’. Asked what prism he felt the Reds ownership viewed him through, he replied: “I'd like to think that when they made this decision, they didn't look at me and see a failed manager who's lucky to be in a job. I think they probably appointed me because they saw something in me that they felt I could deliver at this football club.

“Has that changed in five weeks? I can't answer that question. But I'd be surprised, because that would probably mean there wasn’t a hell of a lot of conviction in it to start with.

“All the feedback I've had, all the interaction I've had with the people at the club - not just the owner but everyone else - they obviously want us to win. I understand that.

“The owner, especially, he wants to win, that's pretty clear. I don't need any further clarification on that.

“But no one's been anything but encouraging to me. But do I get any sort of sense of where I sit with things? I've never asked for that. I've never seeked reassurance about that wherever I've been.

“What I say to you is what I say to the people around me or the owner. Let the story play out, I'll tell you the ending. That's what I say. I've said it to all of them, everywhere I've been appointed, so, that's where I sit.”
