Gomez trains on eve of Newcastle match after international duty

Diego Gomez was spotted in training with [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/?ref=au) on the eve of the Newcastle match.

The Paraguay midfielder was seen tangling with under-21s midfielder Joe Knight in what looked a competitive part of the session.

Knight is a robust character who enjoys a tough tackle but Gomez looked happy to do battle.

He had strapping on his left knee and thigh.

Speaking on Friday morning, Albion head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “It's a small muscle issue. He got a hit.

“So let's see if he can train today. He might be available for tomorrow.”

Hurzeler has spoken about concern over how some national team set-ups look after players.

Carlos Baleba, Yankuba Minteh, Jan Paul van Hecke, Bart Verbruggen, Yasin Ayari and Tommy Watson were all shown training after their various international commitments.

Greece under-21s duo Stefanos Tzimas and Charalampos Kostoulas were also getting involved in what looked a lively session.

Ferdi Kadioglu, who has been away with Turkey, was not visible in the shots.

There was also no sign of Joel Veltman and Kaoru Mitoma, both of whom missed the draw at Wolves going into the international break.

Hurzeler said they were doubtful when he spoke to the media on Friday morning.
