**Nick Woltemade has proven to be a thorn in the side of a few Premier League defences already this season, so it clearly takes a special kind of player to keep him out of the game.**
That's exactly what Newcastle United's latest defensive target did in the summer, however, as England beat Germany in the final of the Under-21 European Championships.
Nick Woltemade won the Golden Boot in that competition, but a combination of Jarell Quansah and Charlie Cresswell kept Newcastle's record signing quiet on that occasion.
Now, [Graeme Bailey has told TBR Football](https://tbrfootball.com/newcastle-and-west-ham-battle-premier-league-sides-for-15m-talent-who-locked-down-nick-woltemade/) that Newcastle are keeping an eye on Cresswell and could make a move in January for the young Toulouse star.
Charlie Cresswell, along with Jarell Quansah, kept Nick Woltemade quiet in the summer
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quansah recently spoke about how he and Charlie Cresswell combined to nullify Nick Woleemade in the final, and it seems Newcastle have taken notice.
The former Leeds United man is thought to be available for just £15 million in January, which could prove to be an absolute steal.
TBR Football claims that Liverpool, Manchester City, Everton, Brentford, Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Ham have all scouted Cresswell, along with Newcastle, so it won't be a straight shot for the Magpies if they do decide to make their move.
Is there room for Charlie Cresswell at Newcastle?
-------------------------------------------------
The 23-year-old was highly rated at Leeds, which makes it all the more baffling why they let him move to Toulouse for just £2.5 million, but it now looks as though he could be offered a route back to England to show the Premier League what he can do.
Newcastle have Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman as a new centre-back pairing for the future, so we're not sure how desperate we are for another central defender. He'd obviously be great to have in the squad, but one of those three is going to find themselves riding the bench, and that could lead to a headache for Howe.
That being said, having so many top-class players that Howe could switch things up regularly is the aim, so maybe there is room for Cresswell. Let's hope so.
