"He is going": Amorim hints £18m United star will start vs Liverpool, 11 recoveries this season

Manchester United return to Premier League action against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Ahead of the game, manager Ruben Amorim was posed with plenty of questions in his pre-match presser.

One of those was focused on Senne Lammens, who had a terrific debut in goal against Sunderland this month.

The Belgian made a couple of good saves and ensured that the Red Devils kept their first clean sheet of the campaign.

When pressed on whether he would start, Amorim said that it is possible that the Belgian will retain his place in goal.

He told Manutd.com: “Senne did a great job [against Sunderland]. It is possible he is going to start the game.

“The first impression in this club is really important, to maintain the level is really important and difficult.

“He is not Schmeichel. He is a young guy, he showed a lot of composure and the fans like him. He needs to show himself.”

Lammens poised to start vs Liverpool on Sunday

Altay Bayindir started the season as an undisputed starter in the Premier League, but he was eventually replaced.

The Turkey international had an average outing at Brentford, which paved the way for Lammens’ league debut.

Lammens made a big impression. Aside from his saves, the £18 million signing managed 11 successful long balls and 11 recoveries.

United face a daunting challenge at Anfield this weekend despite Liverpool’s three-match losing run in all competitions.

Liverpool will be determined to prove a point on the back of the losing streak, and United could likewise capitalise.

The Reds’ defence has been vulnerable, conceding nine goals in seven league games.

United have the opportunity to exploit Liverpool’s defensive vulnerability through counter-attacking runs.

The Red Devils last won at Anfield in January 2016. They picked up a 1-0 victory with Wayne Rooney scoring the winner.

If they want to repeat the feat, Lammens will need to turn up with a flawless performance between the sticks on Sunday.
