Kevin Durant is arguably the greatest scorer in NBA history. He’s a 2-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, and also has an MVP to his name. One of the game’s modern greats, Durant has done enough to walk into the Hall of Fame when he retires.
Despite all this, one of the most intriguing aspects of his personality is that he’ll involve himself in every social media debate, however insignificant it might be. Durant has often been asked why he engages with trolls on websites like X. And he recently gave an answer that was equal parts hilarious and insightful at the same time.

“When I can’t get that little dopamine hit from playing, I’m definitely getting it from that Twitter,” Durant said on an episode of Netflix’s Starting 5 series. “A lot of people want my attention. I don’t think they truly want my attention. So, I put ’em on the big screen so they can realize, they can get a little bit of fame, so they can understand it’s not always what it’s cracked up to be.

“Especially when I’m rehabbing, I’m on edge. If I wake up at 8 o’clock and I go on Twitter and I see something that’s too edgy, I’m going right back at you. That’s like my coffee in the morning. People come in here, have never picked up a basketball, never ran full speed in their life, never got their heart rate up before, and they tell you how to approach the game. That’s when I’m starting to violate you. Shut your a** up.”

Durant’s reasoning is petty enough to be hilarious, but it’s commendable that he doesn’t consider himself to be too far above the fans to respond. He remains one of the most grounded NBA superstars for this reason. His takedowns are also incredibly hilarious, so hopefully, he won’t stop anytime soon.
