Mikel: "The ambition is very clear"

Speaking in his press conference today, Mikel Arteta said everyone at the club shares our owners’ vision of winning major trophies as we prepare to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage tomorrow.

It's a big weekend for Co-Chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke, who not only have our match against the Cottagers, but the LA Rams are also in town, facing the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Mikel highlighted the importance of his close relationship with Stan and Josh.

He said: "It's very important because we share the vision and especially their ambition, and the ambition is very clear.

"We are here to win, and to win major trophies and every sign that they are giving us, every conversation, that's the main topic. Stan and Josh are incredibly experienced in sport. They've won almost everything and what we want to do, is to be here now."

The game at Wembley presents a chance to see LA Rams head coach Sean McVay take charge of his side.

Mikel and Sean know each other well and Mikel believes there's plenty to learn from NFL as a whole.

"Sean is someone that I admire a lot," he said. "Not only for what he's achieved as well, but the way he is as a coach, as a person, the way he presents himself and I learn a lot of things from him. This weekend is a good opportunity to connect everybody.”

The life of a football manager and the head coach of an NFL giant has its similarities and differences, but Mikel is always keen to learn from other sports and leaders.

He said: "I have seen Sean run a day with the team and how his day looks and the amount of meetings he has.

"He has 74 players in the squad, and he has 10 meetings before he even starts, and players are taking notes for two hours they are in meetings. It's all about education and culture.

"They have the capacity to create different scenarios.  How you maximise everything is a completely different world to me. There are things that you can implement, given their restrictions, and how they maximise certain areas is unbelievable. In my opinion, football and other sports are not there yet, so there is so much we can still learn from each other.”
