Blazers Waive Javonte Cooke

The Portland Trail Blazers have waived guard Javonte Cooke, the organization announced on Friday. Cooke is still under consideration for the Blazers’ third and final two-way roster spot, a league source told Blazer’s Edge.

With Cooke waived, the Blazers roster stands at 17 players, including two two-way players.

The Blazers had officially signed the 6-foot-6 guard on Sept. 30 just before training camp. He appeared in three of Portland’s four preseason games this October, but never logged more than 10 minutes in a game.

Cooke’s most notable showing came in the preseason opener when he registered nine points on 3-7 shooting and three rebounds in nine minutes against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 8. He was a “DNP - Coach’s Decision” in the preseason finale against the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Cooke spent the last three seasons in the NBA G League, spending the first two seasons with the Iowa Wolves and the 2024-25 season with the Oklahoma City Blue. In 31 appearances with the Blue, Cooke averaged 16.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists, while shooting 43.1% from the field.

The 26-year-old guard went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft. Before the draft and the G League, Cooke played Division II college basketball, splitting time between Mars Hill University and Winston-Salem State.

On Monday, the Blazers’ G League affiliate, the Rip City Remix, announced it required the the returning player rights to Cooke from Oklahoma City in exchange for the returning player rights to Henri Drell, Isaac Nogues and a second-round pick in the 2026 NBA G League Draft.

The Blazers tip off the regular season next Wednesday, Oct. 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Moda Center at 7 p.m. PDT.
