"If you let the story play out, I'll tell you how it finishes" - Ange Postecoglou makes plea for more time as Forest…

Postecoglou offered little certainty over what lies ahead for his future as manager, but his position will perhaps become more fragile if Nottingham Forest fail to find three points at the City Ground against Chelsea on Saturday.

In his last four outings against The Blues, he was unable to emerge victorious during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.

This could be the decisive result which may tip owner Evangelos Marinakis over the edge and force him to pull the trigger.

Postecoglou asserted he isn't allowing the speculation over his sacking to distract him from the task at hand, and remained unbothered by a lack of clarity over the potential opinions those inside or outside the club currently hold of him.

"It's either outright lies or there's some truth in it, either way what can I do about it, because who knows what the truth is and I don’t care. If people have made up their minds internally or externally about me after five weeks, for god sake, well what am I supposed to do about that."

Although his previous club Tottenham Hotspur finished 17th last term, he ended his tenure there with European silverware.

Postecoglou repeatedly drew attention to this outcome in North London and seemed to be issuing a reminder of his credibility to those in the Forest boardroom.

"What I consistently say, and I was mocked for it last year and ridiculed, is that if you let the story play out, I’ll tell you how it finishes."

He added, "Every job I’ve had has finished the same way."

Postecoglou entered the door at Nottingham Forest in the wake of the tensions between his predecessor and the ownership.

The Forest boss spoke about how he came into the job when the club needed to escape some emerging difficulties on the pitch.

"It’s the narrative of what I’ve come into, because unless I’m wrong, the game before I took over they lost 3-0 to West Ham at home. No one mentions that though. I took over something that was humming apparently, humming along, don’t touch it."

The Forest chiefs may come to rue their decision as Forest have ultimately slipped down the Premier League standings, and Postecoglou said he would be "surprised" if after seven games at the helm the attitudes of the ownership have shifted.

"I’d like to think that when they made this decision, they didn’t look at me and see a failed manager who’s lucky to be in a job.

"Has that changed in five weeks? I can't answer that question, but I'd be surprised because that would probably mean there wasn't a lot of conviction in it to start with."
