The San Francisco 49ers have once again found themselves trying to navigate numerous injuries to key players. The Niners have managed to stay afloat for the most part, staying within striking distance of the NFC West title.
There was hope that star quarterback Brock Purdy would be able to return to the starting lineup this weekend, but that just wasn’t in the cards, according to one prominent league insider.
“49ers ruled out QB Brock Purdy (toe) and WR Ricky Pearsall (knee) for Sunday night’s game against the Falcons. 49ers QB Mac Jones starts again,” [reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter on Friday.](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1979291392670126275)
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“With Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall out, Mac Jones will get another start, and the offense will likely lean more on Deebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, and short-to-intermediate passing. Falcons’ defense could try to exploit the unfamiliar QB-Facing situation, but it’s a good test for Jones to keep the momentum going,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Huge props to Mac Jones stepping up as QB1 for the 49ers! With Brock Purdy and Ricky Pearsall out, this is his chance to shine against the Falcons. Plus, George Kittle’s return adds some serious firepower! Let’s go Niners!” someone else wrote.
“Need the O-Line to actually do their job. They let the Rams had their way and smash Mac Jones. They did it again by letting Tampa getting to him. Need Mac Jones to be healthy,” another person added.
It’ll be interesting to see how the Niners look on Sunday.
