Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are making their final preparations for a major rivalry showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders this week. After starting off the 2025 NFL season with a 3-3 record, the Chiefs badly need a win.
Last week, Kansas City finally looked dominant once again. Mahomes and company were able to blow out the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium. In Week 7, the Chiefs will need to keep playing with the same level of urgency they showed in Week 6.
While Kansas City is without a doubt favored to win this week’s game, the Raiders are not going to go down without a fight. Pete Carroll is an elite head coach and Las Vegas has a talented roster. The Chiefs cannot afford to take them lightly.
That being said, it’s very clear that Mahomes is not overlooking the Raiders. In fact, he’s very fired up about the rivalry matchup.
Prior to the Week 7 matchup, Mahomes spoke out with a very strong message about the rivalry between Kansas City and Las Vegas. The game clearly means just a little bit extra to him.
"I always say it doesn't matter if you're doing good, they're doing good, both doing good, both doing bad, this game – it means more to everybody," Mahomes said. "Everybody that's playing in the game, both sides of the football. You have to have that mentality. It's a true rivalry game. You don't have a lot of those in the NFL, and I'm blessed to be a part of it because it really does bring out the best in both teams."
As shared by StatMuse, Mahomes is currently 12-2 against the Raiders throughout his NFL career. He has had a lot of success against his team’s rival and will look to replicate that success this week.
So far this season, Mahomes has thrown for 1,514 yards, 11 touchdowns, and two interceptions, while completing 64.8 percent of his pass attempts. He has also run for 222 yards and four more touchdowns.
Just looking at the numbers, Mahomes has been doing everything in his power to lead his teams to wins. It hasn’t been easy, but the superstar quarterback seems more motivated than he has ever been. Coming off of a loss in the Super Bowl last season, that isn’t terribly surprising.
It will be interesting to see how the Chiefs look this week against Las Vegas. Mahomes is clearly bringing a lot of emotion and motivation into the game. He doesn’t like the Raiders and will look to take that rivalry mentality out on Las Vegas on Sunday afternoon.
