Aston Villa could make a hefty profit on the player if the Premier League side ever decide to sell him

Aston Villa will get the opportunity to do some transfer business this winter. They will have the chance to complete some incoming and outgoing business when the January window opens up. Unai Emery’s side made a slow start to the new Premier League season but have seen an upturn in form over recent times.

They are positioned in 13th place in the table as they look to rise up the league over the coming months and weeks. In addition, they have also won both of their Europa League ties against Bologna and Feyenoord. The Midlands outfit are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur as they look to keep their momentum going.

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa rises in value

Aston Villa forked out £12million to sign Ezri Konsa from Brentford back in 2019. He was brought in by former manager Dean Smith following their promotion from the Championship. The defender was snapped up to boost their options at the back and he has since become one of their most prized assets.

Konsa, 27, has also become an important player for England and will be eager to get into Thomas Tuchel’s squad for the World Cup next summer. He is under contract until June 2028 meaning he still has three years left to run on his deal. According to Transfermarkt, he is now worth £30.5million, more than double what he cost six years ago.

The Londoner’s valuation has skyrocketed meaning Aston Villa would pick up a hefty profit on him if they sold him eventually. He has made 247 appearances in all competitions for them to date, nine of which have come in this campaign, and he has chipped in with 10 goals from the back.

Konsa has become a dependable option to call upon and is one of the first names on the teamsheet. He is one of Villa’s best players.

Why Ezri Konsa is so important for Aston Villa

Konsa strengthens Aston Villa’s backline and is an experienced player at the top level. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see other teams potentially come sniffing around after him in the next few windows. However, Emery’s side are under no pressure to sell and are likely to hold out for big money regardless.

He rose up through the academy ranks at Charlton Athletic and was a regular at various different youth levels. The Addicks handed him his first-team debut back in 2016 and he went on to play 86 games as a teenager before heading out the exit door for a new challenge at Brentford. He then featured on 47 occasions for the Bees during his single year there before making the step up to the big time.

Konsa is a reliable operator and is proving his worth both domestically and on the international scale now. Aston Villa will be hoping that he can maintain his level of consistency. He can also play at right-back as well as in the middle which can come in very handy, especially if injuries strike.

Emery’s men take on a Spurs team on Sunday who turned to Thomas Frank as their head coach after sacking Ange Postecoglou. It hasn’t been a bad start for the ex-Brentford man and he seems to have adapted well to life in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. They are positioned in 3rd behind Arsenal and Liverpool and won 2-1 away at Leeds United at Elland Road in their last fixture so they should be in confident mood.
