Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has backed head coach Ruben Amorim to bring success back to Old Trafford despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future.
Amorim has found himself in the spotlight, once again, this season after a sluggish start to the 2025/2026 season. After losing 3-1 to Brentford three weeks ago, the Portuguese was the favourite to be the next manager sacked in the Premier League.
The 2-0 victory over Sunderland before the international break eased that pressure - and Sir Jim Ratcliffe's public backing has subsequently removed any doubt over his immediate future. The United co-owner indicated that he would afford Amorim three years to demonstrate his capabilities at Old Trafford, despite picking up just 37 points from his last 34 top-flight games.
"Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years," he told The Business podcast. "That's where I would be. The press, sometimes I don't understand. They want overnight success.
"They think it's a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it's all going to be roses tomorrow. You can't run a club like Manchester United on kneejerk reactions to some journalist who goes off on one every week."
Ahead of Sunday's showdown with Liverpool, Amorim welcomed Ratcliffe's backing. Fernandes, who has also been criticised for his performances this season, has become the first player to discuss the English billionaire's defence of Amorim publicly.

Speaking with Sky Sports, the Portugal international revealed the feeling on Amorim inside the dressing room and how Ratcliffe's vote of confidence is only a good thing. "It's good for the club to give some stability," he said.
"We all know, and I think the manager has spoken about it, results make a manager stay or not. The manager is very aware of that. The players are very aware that we need to improve and to win games to help the manager be more stable and be more confident in what we can do in the moment and in the future.

"I think the club needs some stability, that's the main thing from Sir Jim that he wants to pass through everyone. We've always spoken about giving them time. I think sometimes you need to look at the bigger picture, and from the club side, they need to do that.
"As a player and as a group of players, we believe the manager can help this club get back to where it belongs."
He added: "I don't know what the aim of Sir Jim is to say that. I think [maybe] to pass some confidence on to the squad, to the staff, to make it look like we are on a good path, not the one we want, but on a good path.
"We want to improve that. If Sir Jim sees that - the same as the players - that the manager is the right one for the job, it makes it better. We have got two groups looking in the same way."
