Earlier this year, Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso had an opportunity to join Manchester City.
The left-back’s agent, Giovanni Bia, was a guest on Stile TV’s Salite sulla giostra’ hosted by Raffaele Auriemma.
Bia says Pep Guardiola was keen on bringing his client to Manchester City. The agent has now also explained why the transfer didn’t take shape and Calciomercato have relayed his comments.
“Guardiola was very interested in him, then things happened and the deal didn’t materialise because Manchester City had several injuries and had to invest in other players,” he said.
“He’s a bit like Maldini, Cambiaso is so extraordinary that he always makes himself available to Juventus. Juve often plays him in his position, but he makes himself available, and that’s right.”
The representative hasn’t specified the time when Manchester City showed interest in the Italy international.
Earlier claims from Italy had reported the Citizens’ attempt to sign the 25-year-old in January. A month later, the agent had talked about the Premier League club’s failure to secure his client’s services.
Manchester City continued to be named as a contender for the defender, but there weren’t any concrete movements last summer. Back in June, Cambiaso had confirmed he didn’t receive any calls from Guardiola after January.
Bia sounds disappointed he couldn’t take the Juventus player to the Etihad.
Manchester City have strengthened the left-back position by signing Rayan Aït-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers in June. The 24-year-old Algeria international played three matches before suffering an ankle injury in September.
