Carlos Miguel could be about to make his long-awaited debut for Palmeiras following his move from Nottingham Forest. And it might just be his moment of truth.
According toGlobo Esporte, starting goalkeeper Weverton has picked up a hand injury and will miss Sunday’s clash with Flamengo. The veteran has started 58 of the club’s 62 matches this year. He’s the most-used player in Palmeiras’ 2025 campaign.
The club have yet to release an official statement, but the medical team will finalise the diagnosis after Friday’s training session.
If Weverton is ruled out, either Carlos Miguel or 38-year-old Marcelo Lomba will take the gloves for one of the biggest fixtures of the season. It’s a top-of-the-table clash in the Brazilian league.
Palmeiras signed Carlos Miguel from Nottingham Forest in August for €5.5m, with a deal running until 2030. Despite being seen as the club’s long-term solution in goal, the 26-year-old has yet to play a minute since leaving the Premier League side.
Now, with Weverton injured, he could finally get his chance. If he doesn’t, it’ll raise serious questions about where he really stands in manager Abel Ferreira’s plans.
