Keith Downie says 33-year-old Newcastle United man has signed 12 month contract extension

**Newcastle United have begun their mission to tie players down to longer contracts with several stars' current deals expiring next summer.**

Eddie Howe was calm when asked about the contract situation of several stars on Friday, stating that they would be sorted now that Ross Wilson has joined the club as sporting director.

As we've reported, [there are a few senior figures at the club whose contracts are running down](https://nufcfeed.com/the-five-players-futures-ross-wilson-must-address-quickly-as-newcastle-uniteds-new-sporting-director-1623791), and the club needs to make decisions on their futures.

The likes of Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar are among the players whose deals are coming to an end, but still play an important role at the club.

Nick Pope was also in the camp, but Keith Downie broke the news via X last night that the England goalkeeper has committed another 12 months to the club, meaning he now has 18 months left on his contract.

> ‼️🧤EXCL: Nick Pope has taken up the option of an additional year on his Newcastle United contract. 📆 This means the #NUFC keeper now has over 18 months left on his deal — and he will NOT be out of contract next summer.

Newcastle are still likely to bring in another top goalkeeper next year

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Nick Pope has been in fantastic form so far this season, keeping five clean sheets in seven Premier League games.

Eddie Howe brought in Aaron Ramsdale on loan for the season after missing out on James Trafford, and that seems to have lit a fire under Pope, who is determined to hang on to the Number 1 spot.

We're sure that a new first-choice keeper is still on the cards soon, given Pope's age and inability to use his feet, but for now, he's doing a more than adequate job.
