Report: How Ross Wilson is feeling about Newcastle United job

Ross Wilson has arrived to answer Newcastle United’s dire need for a long-term sporting director.

Wilson has been appointed as Newcastle United’s sporting director and is already hard at work behind the scenes at St James’ Park.

Owners PIF have struggled to fill the sporting director role at the club. Neither Dan Ashworth nor Paul Mitchell lasted long in the job, so the hope is that Wilson provides some stability.

Eddie Howe is a big fan of Wilson’s work and, following the appointment of David Hopkinson as the club’s CEO, progress at executive level has finally been made.

Undertaking the role of Newcastle’s sporting director hasn’t been an easy position over the years but some insight behind the scenes points toward something positive.

Ross Wilson is unfazed about Newcastle United role

According to iNews, Wilson is not daunted by the huge challenge that awaits him.

Having worked under Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and within the pressure-cooker environment at Glasgow giants Rangers, it seems Wilson believes he’s well-suited to life on Tyneside.

The report also quotes one of Wilson’s former colleagues, who describes him as “perfect for the job”.

Eddie Howe finally has his wish granted by PIF at Newcastle United

Back in August, Howe urged PIF to appoint a new sporting director and a new CEO.

PIF have been criticised for a lack of action at executive level but have now settled on a structure that hopefully leads the club into a successful new era.

Challenges will arise but Newcastle now look to be in a much better place.
