A.J. Brown gets honest about Eagles playing against "friend" Isaiah Rodgers

In a time where there has been plenty of drama that is circulated around the Philadelphia Eagles, they got a nice, pleasant moment from their star wide receiver, A.J. Brown.

Over the last few weeks, Brown has been in the news often, starting with his cryptic tweet after the win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then denied a meeting occurred between him, Saquon Barkley, and Jalen Hurts.

It hasn't been fun for any Eagles fan watching, but they did get a moment of Brown being honest (what he's best at), but one where he was able to get a bit personal. When speaking to the press in front of his locker, he talked about going up against their Week 7 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings, and facing off against an old friend, former Eagles cornerback Isaiah Rodgers.

"No, they do a lot of things man. They do a lot of coverages and mix up. They got a good front and they play extremely hard. They punch the ball out so our work is cut out. We're excited. I'm going against Isaiah, which is my friend, so it should be very fun."

“Going against Isaiah…my friend. So it should be fun.”

An old and new friendly rivalry ignites between Brown and Rodgers

Rodgers played for the Eagles in 2023 and 2024. He only got to see the field last year as he was suspended for the whole 2023 season due to violating the NFL's gambling policy.

During his only playing season with the Eagles, Rodgers had more of a backup role in the secondary, but came up big in the postseason. After having four pass deflections in 15 regular season games, he had three in four postseason matchups.

This helped him land a new contract with the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason, and he is having a memorable season there. Rodgers scored two defensive touchdowns, forced two fumbles, and caught an interception in one half versus the Cincinnati Bengals, the only player in NFL history to ever do that.

Now, after having to deny reports on the Eagles planning on making an offer to him in the offseason, but not being able to reach him, Rodgers has a new focus: covering Brown.

It has not been an excellent season for Brown statistically, as he has caught 25 passes for 274 yards and one touchdown in six games. He has had 11 receptions for 123 yards in their last two losses, so he is at least getting involved in the offense.

With two former teammates and friends going at it, Brown needs this game more than Rodgers does to cement his place back in the conversation as one of the top receivers in the NFL.
