Report should make Sweden’s FA very afraid as Graham Potter closes in

[Professional football](https://www.claretandhugh.info/good-news-for-sullivan-as-graham-potter-pivots-to-new-fantastic-opportunity/) never ceases to amaze. The capacity for players and coaches to emerge, as if teflon-covered, from one crisis after another and still find someone willing to take a punt on employing them is never ending. Magically it seems a new employer hopes – or expects –  their form or decision making will alter completely just by changing the colour of the strip or the tracksuit.

As with Graham Potter. At least David Sullivan can be excused _a little_ owing to the amount of time which had elapsed after Potter’s Chelsea  ‘epic fail’ before bringing him to east London.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager’s poor performance in 31 games at West London faded into the memory after two years, and the Lopetegui-led  depths to which West Ham had slumped means the Hammers’ chairman probably considered _‘anyone but Lopetegui_‘ to be an improvement. as did most of us. How wrong we were.

[Talk sport.com’s](https://talksport.com/football/3651595/2025-premier-league-table-arsenal-liverpool-west-ham/) article details what the **Premier League table would look like if it was played over a calendar year and** shows West Ham to be the rank, 20th, rock bottom club for 2025. As they describe the Hammers’ year:

_“The worst team of 2025… well that’s West Ham. Of all the teams to remain in the top-flight from last season, the Hammers have taken the fewest points with just 24 – less than a point per game.”_

‘Worst team of 2025’ on Potter’s CV

-----------------------------------

Incredible to think, now , that there were supporters – some of them readers of Claret and Hugh – that suggested Graham Potter should have been given more time as West Ham manager.

And yet reports suggest Graham ‘teflon’ Potter is now ‘closing in’ on the Sweden job. Aleksander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, no less,  are likely to be the lucky recipients of his coaching.

How desperate must they be? I’m sure Potter interviews well. But with the record of having the ‘worst performing manager in the Premier League’ on his CV you’d surely expect pushback from _someone_ in the recruitment process across the North Sea.
