Newcastle United beefed out their squad during the recent summer transfer window.
Joelinton believes Newcastle United’s squad is “much better” than they were two years ago.
A naive Toon outfit struggled to cope with the added European demands in the 2023-24 campaign. Champions League football proved a hindrance rather than a help - at least as far as the treatment table is concerned.
Newcastle suffered a record 1,950 days lost through injury, forcing Eddie Howe and his team to rethink their training methods. James Bunce arrived as performance director and has made a huge difference in managing the squad’s workloads.
Newcastle United summer influx
By their own admission, the Magpies went into that campaign underprepared from the transfer market. However, lessons have been learned and the same cannot be said this time around.
Newcastle added six players to bulk out the first-team roster. Two strikers, a winger, a midfielder, a defender and a goalkeeper arrived to place the Magpies in good stead going into the new campaign.
Nick Woltemade, in particular, has enjoyed a flying start up front to banish the negativity surrounding Alexander Isak’s exit. Malick Thiaw has also been a welcome addition at the heart of defence.
‘We are much better’ - Joelinton
Speaking to The Chronicle, fan favourite Joelinton has insisted Newcastle are in a better place than ever. He said: "We always try to learn, and we have in the last two years. Even if we suffer a defeat, we learn and take something from that. With wins, it is the same.
“This team has grown from two years ago, and we are a much better team now. The starting team has always been good, but we know we have the quality in the squad, and the experience."
