Newcastle United show meteoric squad value rise despite Alexander Isak sale - Transfermarkt

**The value of a player and therefore a squad is entirely subjective, but it's still interesting to see how Transfermarkt have judged the current Premier League squad values, especially as a Newcastle United supporter.**

According to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.com/man-united-7th-amp-liverpool-3rd-the-most-valuable-english-premier-league-squads/view/news/461646), Newcastle's squad value has risen 14% this season after the close of the summer transfer window, that's despite selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool for £130 million.

Other clubs have seen a similar rise, and Sunderland actually tops the chart for biggest growth with 17%, but going from 1p to 2p is a 100% rise, so is it really that impressive?

Arsenal and Manchester City's squad value has decreased ever so slightly, while the other big clubs ahead of us have grown just a few per cent, which includes Liverpool after their acquisition of the aforementioned rat.

Newcastle are closing the gap

Despite the restrictions, Newcastle are closing that gap to the 'Big Six'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Given the restrictions of PSR, the inherent wage gap between us and the 'Big Six', it's impressive just how high our squad value is.

It proves how good a job Eddie Howe is doing at Newcastle that he's managed to increase the worth of the players at his disposal rather than simply buying players with perceived high value.

Jacob Murphy was valued by Transfermarkt at €4 million when Eddie Howe took over, he's now sitting at €16 million.

Eddie Howe added €20 million to Joelinton's value

-------------------------------------------------

Joelinton's value was at its lowest when Eddie Howe took over, sitting at €15 million, and now, while it has declined from its peak, it is at €35 million. That is the Eddie Howe effect.

Of course, we have to take this all with a pinch of salt, especially as Alexander Isak's value has increased by €20 million since his move to Liverpool, and there's absolutely no way that he's earned that from anything he's done on the pitch.

Still, it's another indicator that Newcastle are moving in the right direction. We will break that 'Big Six' ceiling.
