Nottingham Forest fell to defeat against Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime.

Second-half goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, and Reece James secured the win for the away side.

The Reds return to action against FC Porto in the Europa League on Thursday.

Forest started on the front foot on Trentside, where Taiwo Awoniyi flashed an effort just wide of goal inside the opening two minutes of the contest.

The Reds maintained the pressure, with Morgan Gibbs-White having two chances in as many minutes, but the Forest No. 10 first fired wide of goal before putting a Douglas Luiz cross over the bar.

Ange Postecoglou’s side continued to enjoy plenty of possession in the Chelsea half of the field before the visitors ended the half with chances of their own.

First, Andrey Santos fired over after a cutback before the winger placed the ball just wide of goal when in behind the Reds’ rearguard.

On the stroke of half-time, Pedro Neto fired the ball over the bar, meaning the sides went in goalless at the break.

Chelsea took the lead on 50 minutes when Josh Acheampong headed in from Pedro Neto’s cross.

The visitors added a second minutes later through Pedro Neto’s free-kick.

João Pedro placed an effort wide of goal minutes after, before, just after the hour mark, Neco Williams put the ball over the bar from Elliot Anderson’s cutback.

Forest continued searching for a way back into the contest as Nikola Milenković’s headed effort was saved by Sánchez before substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi’s follow-up was deflected over the bar.

Fellow substitute Igor Jesus had Forest’s best chance to reduce the deficit when he met Hudson-Odoi’s cross with 19 minutes remaining, but the Brazilian forward’s effort came back off the crossbar, then the post, before the Blues cleared their lines.

The away side added a third on 84 minutes when James swept the ball into the net from a corner.

Forest welcome FC Porto to the City Ground on Thursday as the Reds return to action.
