“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect,” the club confirmed in a short statement released straight after the full-time whistle in Saturday’s latest Premier League loss at the City Ground.
“The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Forest’s 39-word statement matched the number of days that Postecoglou was in charge, marking the shortest full-time managerial reign in Premier League history - taking the unwanted record from Les Reed, who was sacked after only 40 days at Charlton between November and December 2006.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis - who left his seat midway through the second half against Chelsea, having seen enough - wasted no time after second-half goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto and Reece James condemned free-falling Forest to their fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions and sixth in eight games under Postecoglou, who did not manage a single win in his short-lived stint at the helm.
