With Ange Postecoglou having been fired following a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, Nottingham Forest have turned their attention to another trophy-winning manager, this time in the form of Celtic's Brendan Rodgers.
It took the football world by surprise when Nuno Espirito Santo was relieved of his duties as manager of Nottingham Forest. The current West Ham United boss spent just shy of two years at the club, guiding them to European football.
Regardless, a blend of off-field issues and less-than-desirable results meant he was shown the door, a move that made way for Ange Postecoglou to come in at The Garibaldis. However, having lost six games and drawn two, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has shortlisted Rodgers, among other names, to replace the Australian, but it is the Northern Irishman who would be best suited to the job.
Brendan Rodgers Could Turn Nottingham Forest's Season Around
Brendan Rodgers
It was revealed exclusively by GiveMeSport's Neil Moxley that Rafael Benitez was admired by those at Forest, with Marco Silva also linked to the potential job. However, it is Brendan Rodgers that Marinakis should look to hire, with his future at Celtic growing more uncertain.
Having lost another game, this time to Chelsea, Postecoglou's tenure as Forest boss was confirmed as over just 20 minutes after the full-time whistle. Looking for their third manager of the 2025/26 season, Rodgers, who was admired by the hierarchy back in August, could help turn Forest's season around.
Unknown if the four-time Scottish Premiership winner would leave the Scottish club mid-season, but his experience of having once managed a mid-table Premier League club and taking them to Europe will be seen as an attractive trait. Having recently described managing in the Premier League as a 'holiday' compared to Celtic, Forest fans will be hoping Rodgers fancies a vacation soon.
Achieving the aforementioned at Leicester City, Rodgers took the Foxes from ninth to back-to-back finishes in fifth, before achieving an FA Cup triumph and giving the club European football. Although things quickly went downhill in the 2022/23 season, his winning return to Celtic proved that season to be merely an anomaly.
A bona fide winner, having won at the likes of Celtic, Leicester and Swansea, his experience in the Premier League and winning ways can help balance the ship at Forest and guide the club back to normality. With knowledge of how to perform on the European stage and his time at Celtic looking like it's near the end, it could be a serendipitous pairing.
